If you follow me on my social networks (I’m @PhotoKisses everywhere, btw), you may have noticed that recently I have started speaking up more about acceptance. Accepting not just the things that happen to us or are given to us, but also accepting one’s self. Complete with flaws, issues, insecurities, what have you. I have been working on accepting myself as the person I am (not the person I think I need to be, or the person others see me as) and accepting gifts, events, and qualities that go along with being me 🙂 With that in mind, I have also started being more accepting to different creative photography projects that pop up in my life. Where in the past I would have doubts (am I capable of delivering a great product from this? Is my location choice “good enough”? What if I mess up the shoot? What if I lose money on this?), now I look at a project and say “I can do this, it will be fun, we will have a great time”. Simply from shifting my focus from the end product (or failure, in my doubtful moments) to the process itself (fun during the shoot, having a good experience and making fond and sometimes silly memories, creating happy moments, etc) I no longer need to worry and fret about my final results. My professional and personal focus is no longer “product”, but rather “experience”. I feel like such a huge weight has been lifted off me, honestly. When you think about it, happiness is such a simple thing to achieve! If there’s one thing I know about my style of photography, it’s that no matter what, my clients and I have the best time during our shoots – we laugh, we explore, we open up, we connect. I wouldn’t change that for anything. I feel so lucky that I can recall those moments from memory whenever I want. Even better, all I need to do is look up at the walls in my office, which are plastered with happy moments I captured from my favorite portrait sessions, weddings, engagements, and couples shoots. I fall in love with these extraordinary clients of mine, over and over again. It’s almost selfish how I want to photograph the happiness of others, so I can get to participate in it as well 🙂 So there you have it, my current state of being, and the reason for all the recent personal photo projects and portrait shoots I’ve been blogging. My wedding season starts soon, and I smile just thinking about all the happyfunamazing extraordinary moments to come! 😀
The Purpelle Shoot
Anyway, you probably just came here to gawk at pretty pictures, so here’s a recent portrait shoot from the “Extraordinary You” mini series Orlando HMUA Chris Testerman and myself are collaborating on. We titled it “Purpelle”. Our client Elle (a talented photographer herself) has some purple in her hair, so we decided to expand on that little detail since it obviously makes her happy. I created a custom purple tulle corset gown in two pieces so that we could get a few different looks. The general idea was a poised/queenly look and a whimsical/mademoiselle look.
Elle is a busy mom, business owner, and wife. We wanted to show a beautiful, confident woman (and perhaps bring out her sultry side) so Chris pampered her with a relaxing makeover, light contouring, and luscious eyelashes for some extra oomph!
An already gorgeous woman, and her pampered, confident, stunning self towards the end of the shoot. I’m so happy when a client chooses a styled/themed shoot over a regular portrait session. We get to create just a little bit more magic. I like bringing out that inner goddess to play 😛
Lest you think that it’s all beauty and poise… Haha! I love the blooper moments just as much as the actual shoot! We love to look at the back of the camera and laugh at ourselves. Pretty much any behind the scenes shot of me working means I look awkward and ridiculous, likely pointing at something or waving my arms about, smiling like a maniac 😛
Changed the gears a bit for a more burlesque look here.
I am currently offering Extraordinary You sessions at half off if you book by 4/23/15. For just $150 you will get a makeover, a custom corset gown to wear (or bring your own favorite outfits), an online image gallery with print options, and 10 fully edited digital files. Allow me to draw your soft yet confident side out and I’ll show you how extraordinary you truly are.
